I’m not someone you would call “Tech savvy.” Still, I don’t want to be a live fossil either, so I try to stay current on emerging technology, especially since I have available assistance via my husband and son who definitely fit that label.
Recently, I’ve been experimenting with ChatGPT. And since I’m a writer, I’ve been following AI’s potential impact on copyright laws and the publishing industry. But it wasn’t until our son sent us a YouTube link to "The A.I. Dilemma" that I realized how surface only I’d been in understanding this technology and its potential for both good and evil.
The video is of a June 2023 presentation at The Aspen Institute. After we watched the co-founders of the Center for Humane Technology, Tristan Harris and Aza Raskin, present both sides of this fast-moving technology, I felt compelled to share their message. Hence this post.
It’s an hour and nine minutes long – a small time investment, I believe, for anyone wanting to better understand AI’s potential impact – plus and minus – on our collective future.
