The Constitution of the United States: My Favorite Non-Fiction for October

While this small, 42-page pocketbook is certainly not the only book I read this month, it was the most important. The first time I read the Constitution of the United States and The Declaration of Independence was decades ago in college.

This is only my second reading and is, I believe, an important refresher. Not because reading it is some kind of statement, but because I felt it important without the noise of social media, news outlets, and political banter to be reminded of what our founding fathers set forth 238 years ago, along with later ratified amendments that govern and protect our rights as citizens.

A tiny book yes. A quick read yes. An illuminated reminder of what it means to be a citizen of the United States of America absolutely.

For someone like me who hasn't read these documents recently, I recommend investing an hour to be reminded of the wisdom foundation which binds us together, the freedoms bestowed upon us, and our shared citizen responsibility to preserve and protect them.
