I’m not what you would call a good cook. I’m better than my mother was, which is something. Sure, I can manage when needed, generally doing the holiday-stuff. But every day? Not my thing. Luckily, my husband is much better, learned from his talented mother and grandmother and enjoys both baking and cooking.
With that in mind, when reading cozy mysteries, I typically don’t gravitate to ones that are food centric. But I did this month and am glad I did.
Cheddar Off Dead recently won the Agatha Award for Best First Novel. Since I’m working on my own cozy mystery series, I try to learn from other writers especially those who win awards, are debut authors, get great reviews, and/or have devoted readers. Author Korina Moss seems to be doing all of that.
This cozy mystery is a fun, fast read – perfect for a summer vacation or a relaxing weekend. I liked the protagonist, was engaged with the story, and despite being a non-foodie, found learning about cheese quite interesting.
