It’s mind-boggling all the information we are bombarded within 24 hours. How we sift through all of it and what draws our attention, what we may click on and then follow the trail, is quite personal. I’m one of those people whose glass is at least half-full. Quite frankly, I’m accused of being a bit of a Pollyanna. And, I’m OK with that.
So, a couple of days ago I followed a heart-warming story of a Panera Manager in Nashua, New Hampshire. You may have seen it too, it’s is circulating out there in cyber world.
In a nutshell, there is young man who is visiting his grandmother in the hospital and her time on earth is quite limited. She is craving clam chowder from Panera, her favorite soup. If you are familiar with Panera you know they only make chowder on Friday’s. The young man called to see if he could get his grandmother a bowl. Without hesitation, the woman said ‘Absolutely’. His grandmother was so happy and appreciative. And on the story goes – check it out.
It made me pause. There are many learnings for leaders, titeless or not. Three come to mind:
- Kindness is critical in today’s business world. As Dale Carnegie said, “Perhaps you will forget tomorrow the kind words you say today, but the recipient may cherish them over a lifetime.”
