Train Your Brain - Away From Stress

This week's (9/6/10 to 9/12/10) Work Matters explores a revolutionary method that can help you process your stress.

Are you stressed out? Do you find that stress from work-related issues are causing you to be hostile? Have you seen yourself relying on unhealthy actions as a way of dealing with your stress?

This week's guest, Laurel Mellin, is an associate clinical professor of Family and Community Medicine and Pediatrics at UCSF and the author of several books, including her latest Wired For Joy. In today's interview, she explains that there are five brain states that reflect certain stress levels and that these five states affect different areas of the brain. She goes on to say that for each of these brain states there is a related pathway that can be accessed to help you process stress and increase your joy.

Then, the show continues with the regular segment of Uncommon Sense when Nan and her colleague Beth Pelkofsky field listener questions.
