TIP #53: The Credit Doesn't Matter
Some people get hung up on who is going to get the credit. Others withhold ideas for fear someone will steal them, as if there's a shortage of their creative thoughts. Still others let their egos get in the way of their results.
One of the best pieces of advice my father gave me about business was that it's better to give away ideas, suggestions and information. It's better to let someone else take the credit, than not get something done. It's better to focus on results.
You see, ultimately whatever you give away comes back to you. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but over time. In business, as in life, you get what you give.
Benjamin Jowett, a 19th century scholar put it this way, "The way to get things done is not to mind who gets the credit of doing them."
I couldn't agree more.
