Contribute to My Research
I'm doing research for future books and column themes, as well as general marketing, and I need your help. This confidential survey should take about 10 minutes of your time.
As a way to thank you for your participation, I've put together a twelve page booklet: 21 Winning Career Tips. After you've completed the survey you'll be directed to the download page. Thanks for helping me out!

June 03, 2006TIP #48 : Practice What You Love
An expert on "expert performance," Florida State University professor K. Anders Ericsson, discussed his researched with The New York Times, "A lot of people believe there are some inherent limits they were born with, but there is surprisingly little hard evidence that anyone could attain any kind of exceptional performance without spending a lot of time perfecting it."
In other words, you can do most anything if you put in the time, doing what Anders calls, "deliberate practice." That includes setting goals, getting feedback, and focusing on technique.
So, next time you're wondering what you should do with your life, go for what you love. You see if you love what you do, you're more likely to invest the time and deliberate practice needed to build your skills and get results.
