April 19, 2006TIP #47: The More You do, the More You Can Do
I once heard the comment that if you want something done, give it to a busy person. That certainly was my experience in twenty years in management. Funny how true those sayings are. You see, like Parkinson's Law states: "Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion."
People who are winning at working know that the more they do, the more they can do - anything from having greater impact and achieving better results to living their life's potential and accomplishing their life's dreams.
Doing leads to more and bigger doing. They don't pace out their work but work to accomplish all they can. Notice people who are winning at working. They're the ones making things happen for themselves and others. Want to be winning at working? Do more so you can do more.

April 10, 2006TIP #46: Invest in You
Novelist Thomas Wolfe said, "If a man has a talent and cannot use it, he has failed. If he has a talent and uses only half of it, he has partly failed. If he has a talent and learns somehow to use the whole of it, he has gloriously succeeded, and won a satisfaction and a triumph few men ever know."
One way you can develop your talent is by investing in yourself. Sometimes that investment may be a monetary one: attending a seminar; taking a class; buying and listening to motivational tapes; using a personal coach. Sometimes the investment is time: practicing; taking a "think week" like Bill Gates; reading, meditating; exercising.
You see, the more you invest in you, the more you'll develop your talents and abilities and the more return you'll get. People who are winning at working invest in growing their talents. They know Emerson was right when he said, "No one can cheat you out of ultimate success but yourself."
