What's Trust Worth to You?

Company and job satisfaction is a personal bottom line factor, according to a recent article, You May Be Paid More (or Less) Than you Think, according to two economists, Helliwell and Huang, posted on CNNmoney.com

They concluded that having a job where:

** you trust management is worth the equivalent of a 36% pay increase. Of course, when you distrust them, that's the equivalent of a 36% pay decrease.

** you have a variety of projects to do is worth a 21% increase, or if you don't, a 21% pay cut.

** you hold a position that requires a great deal of skill is worth a 19% increase (or decrease).

** you have enough time to finish your work results in an 11% increase if you do, and an 11% pay cut if you don't.

It certainly gives you something to think about!

Thought for the Day

I'm a quote lover. I collect them. I read them. I use them to inspire me, to challenge my thinking and to guide my thoughts. This is one of my personal favorites:

It is not your environment, it is you -- the quality of your mind, the integrity of your soul, the determination of your will -- that will decide your future and shape your life.

Benjamin E. Mays (1895-1984)
President of Morehouse College, Atlanta, Georgia

TIP #45: Increase Your Altitude

"The hardest thing to see is what is in front of your eyes." Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

When things go wrong as they sometimes do, increase your altitude and take another look.

When you're mired in the details and lost sight of why you're doing what you're doing, increase your altitude and look again.

When you're had one of those "I wish I could quit" days, increase your attitude and consider it again in the big scheme of what really matters in life.

People who are winning at working increase their vantage point to gain perspective. Increasing altitude increases your options, reduces your stress and enhances your problem-solving.

TIP #44: It's Not the Idea

Recently as a conference attendee, I was struck by the frenzy of people trying to grab hold of the next big idea. As if getting the perfect idea was going to change their success outcome or business results.

You see, the missing link is not having an idea, it's executing it. That's where most people flounder. They have plenty of ideas, chasing new ones, brainstorming what can be done. But, they never get around to doing them.

People who are winning at working do. They have plenty of ideas, too, but they do something about them.
